UHM Honors Represents at NCHC Conference!

Portz Scholar Brandy Dobson a Spring 2017 graduate, was honored and shared a moving presentation on her Honors Thesis, “A Murmur in the Weeds: A Memoir." Senior Kari Noe won first prize in the highly competitive Business, Engineering, or Computer Science contest with her poster on her Portfolio project incorporating 3D imaging technology with traditional navigation and archaeology. Honors Advisor Jayme Scally also presented on the on-going development of the UHM Honors Program along with Kari, whose insights into the program and what it means to be an Honors student as a Native Hawaiian and as one of our first Senior Honors Portfolio Project students were appreciated by all participants.

UH Mānoa Honors student wins Portz Prize, second year in a row!

Brandy Dobson, Spring 2017 English graduate, has been named one of four national Portz Prize winners by the National Collegiate Honors Council. Brandy’s paper was based on her Honors English creative thesis, titled: “A Murmur in the Weeds: A Memoir,” which deals with topics of family trauma, abuse, obligation and love. Mānoa Horizons –Vol III

Volume 3 of Mānoa Horizons will be published in the fall of 2018. We invite submissions from all fields of inquiry and in different formats, whether in the form of a research paper or excerpt of a capstone thesis, an innovative approach to a problem, or a thought‐provoking example of artistic expression, that pushes the horizons of academic scholarship in novel ways.
