Application Process
Review the application information below to apply for Veterans Affairs (VA) educational benefits.
If you are not already a continuing University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa student, you must apply for admission by the appropriate deadline and be admitted. Visit Apply Now! for admission information.
Note: Veterans who are disabled and are receiving benefits through Vocational Rehabilitation should contact the Vocational Rehabilitation Department at 808-433-0560 to begin their VA educational benefits.
Application Instructions
- Submit all forms and application materials to Veterans Affairs Services, located in the Office of the Registrar
- Applicants should provide a copy of their Certificate of Eligibility
- Note: If you have not yet received a Certificate of Eligibility from the VA but would like to start your benefits, provide a copy of your application VA Form 22-1990, 22-1990e or 22-5490

Select one of the following application options based on your current status:
- You previously received VA educational benefits at UH Mānoa
- You have never received VA educational benefits at UH Mānoa but have received benefits from another school
- You have never received VA educational benefits
You previously received VA educational benefits at UH Mānoa
- Mānoa Enrollment Form (PDF)
For all students who are not in the College of Arts & Sciences. Complete this form with your college (undergraduate) or department (graduate) academic advisor after you have registered for classes. Form must be submitted for each semester for which benefits are requested.
- Retroactive certification also requires the Mānoa Enrollment form for each semester
OR
Veteran Student JUMP Plan
For College of Arts & Sciences students only. JUMP Plans are available at the Office of the Registrar and must be approved by your academic advisor. Students must notify the VA Certifying Official of their enrollment for each semester for which benefits are requested.
- After you have registered for classes, email uhmva@hawaii.edu to request benefits for the upcoming semester
- Changes made to courses on your JUMP Plan need to be approved by your advisor on the Change in Enrollment (ADD/DROP) form
- Retroactive certification can be completed on the JUMP Plan
- Concurrent Enrollment Form & Transfer Credit Evaluation Form (PDF)
For all students who are concurrently enrolled at a secondary school (e.g., UH community college). Complete this form with your UH Mānoa academic advisor after you have registered for classes. - Students must also complete the attached Transfer Credit Evaluation Request
- Future certifications cannot be processed until transfer credit evaluations are completed for all courses certified at secondary schools
- Request for Change of Program
Notify the Office of the Registrar if you have declared a major or of any change in major by completing the appropriate form:- VA Form 22-1995

You have never received VA educational benefits at UH Mānoa but have received benefits from another school

Complete only if it has been two years or more since you last received educational benefits. Visit VONAPP to re-apply.

- All previous education and training must be evaluated for transfer credit within two semesters
- Review Transfer Credit for important information regarding transferable credits

- Complete with your Advising office once you have been accepted into a degree program and after all previous education and training have been evaluated by the UHM Office of Admissions (includes military transcripts if applicable)
- Mānoa Enrollment Form (PDF)
