Registration Override Codes Instructions

Registration overrides allow faculty to grant exceptions to registration restrictions or special approval for a particular student. Restrictions are listed in Check Class Availability in the Title column and in the University Catalog under course prerequisite requirements.

Students will receive an error message while registering if they do not have approval for a restricted course. To view the list of error messages and the recommended action visit Registration Errors. For a quick guide to which Mānoa override code is needed, review the Registration Override Codes Chart.

Note: In order to clear the error message, the department and/or instructor offering the course must approve the student's course selection and enter the appropriate Mānoa override code in his or her MyUH account. Overrides must be entered by the instructor before the student attempts to register for the class.

Review the information below to learn more about Mānoa overrides:

How To Enter an Override Code

UH Mānoa uses the Mānoa override codes listed on Registration Errors. Faculty may only enter an override code for courses in which they are listed as the primary instructor. Select only override codes that begin with 'Mānoa' (i.e., Mānoa Closed Class, Mānoa Course Approval).

  • Log in to MyUH opens in new window
  • Review the Faculty Services menu
  • Select Registration Overrides
  • Select the appropriate term
  • For Student ID, enter a student's UH Number (8 digits) or UH Username
  • Select Mānoa Override Codes
  • Select the Course Section
  • Submit Changes
  • Scroll to the bottom of the page for the ID Selection to enter an override code for the next student

Note: Entering an override code does not register the student for a course. The student must register for an open section of the course after the code has been entered.

Frequently Asked Questions

I assigned an override code but the student still cannot register. Why?

  • You may have entered the wrong override code. Please note that if you are entering an override code, you must select an override code that begins with 'Mānoa' (i.e., Mānoa Closed Class, Mānoa Course Approval).
  • The student may need to verify his or her status. MyUH allows overrides to be assigned to anyone with a general student record even though they may not be eligible to currently register at UH Mānoa. Advise the student to contact the Office of the Registrar to verify his or her status.

Explain the message: "There are no instructional assignments available for the selected term"

  • Log in to MyUH opens in new window
  • Review the Faculty Services menu
  • Select ID Selection to select a student to override

I received the following message: "The person you have entered is not a student for the selected term"

Registration overrides may only be assigned to officially-enrolled students. A student is defined as having applied, been accepted, and submitted an Intent to Register and Tuition Deposit. For additional questions contact the Office of the Registrar to verify the student's status.

I approved two students to register for my course. There is one space left. Which override code do I assign?

Since you do not know which student will register first, assign the Mānoa Closed Class Override (B-CLOSED) approval code to both students.

How do I remove an assigned override code?

Unfortunately, MyUH does not allow faculty to remove overrides. Contact your departmental personnel to remove the override code.

How can I see the overrides I assigned for a course?

  • Log in to MyUH opens in new window
  • Review the Faculty Services menu
  • Select Registration Overrides Summary option
