Responsible Stewardship of Extramural Awards
To ensure responsible stewardship of extramural awards, the University of Hawaii is committed to providing support services for research and compliance. The Office of Research Services (ORS) and the Office of Research Compliance shall offer guidance to principal investigators (PIs) as they meet all applicable requirements under the terms of an award.
The University requires that all PIs comply with applicable laws, regulations and university policies and procedures. In addition, PIs must notify ORS, the funding agency, and the Office of Compliance, of any event or circumstance that materially affects the implementation of the research as set forth in the funded proposal. This includes, but is not limited to, adverse events, unanticipated problems with facilities, personnel, or laboratory resources, including human and animal subjects, and fiscal or budgetary concerns. Reporting to ORS and Office of Compliance must occur in timely manner consistent with applicable regulations and funding agency requirements.
