Hundreds of environmental leaders from around the globe will convene at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa from April 16 to 20 to discuss current and future issues surrounding island environments.

The 7th International Conference on Environmental Future (7ICEF) will bring together islanders, researchers, managers and non-governmental organizations to focus on the connection between humans and island environments, and seek to answer questions such as: How have islands aided our understanding of human-environment interactions? What are the latest directions in island biological and cultural conservation? Where should island conservation efforts be focused? What conservation lessons do islands have for the rest of the world?

Each day, illustrious speakers from schools and departments throughout UH will join international experts to focus on the topics critical to island communities and ecosystems, such as climate change, invasive species, growth and development, and resource management. These discussions will then be compiled into a series of written documents intended to address these daunting challenges now and in the future.

The 7ICEF is a partnership of the Foundation for Environmental Conservation, Newcastle University Institute for Sustainability, East-West Center, and entities throughout UH, including the Hawai‘i Institute of Marine Biology, Sea Grant College Program, Center for Pacific Island Studies, Pacific Science Association, Pacific Islands Climate Science Center and the Water Resources Research Center.

Media are invited and encouraged to attend.

Selected sessions are open to registered participants only.
