Reports of people pretending to be culinary students

Please be advised that neither Kapi‘olani Community College’s Culinary Arts Department nor the Culinary Institute of the Pacific (CIP) at Diamond Head has been conducting fundraising efforts off its premises.
Said Ron Takahashi, chairperson for the culinary arts department, “There have been reports of people pretending to be our culinary students and who are going door-to-door selling food products and/or seeking donations. Kapi‘olani CC culinary and the CIP at Diamond Head would never send students off campus to sell products or solicit donations. We conduct all fundraising through organized events with our students dressed in proper culinary attire that includes having the CIP logo and Kapi‘olani Community College name prominently displayed on it.”
In a recent incident, a male and female, both not wearing a Kapi‘olani CC uniform, were reported to be selling muffins and azuki bean-filled manapua with no labels on packaging, claiming to be fundraising for Kapi‘olani CC’s culinary program. This incident occurred on Tuesday, February 6, in the Atlas Building, 1150 South King Street.
In an earlier and similar incident about a month ago, a mother was approached at home near Wai‘alae School by someone selling muffins who claimed to be fundraising for Kapi‘olani CC.
The public is advised to exercise caution when purchasing food products from strangers.
