Hawaii Academy of Sciences Seeks Nominations for 2004-2005 Science Research and Science Educator Awards

HONOLULU — The Hawaiʻi Academy of Sciences (HAS) is accepting nominations for the 2004-2005 Science Research and Science Educator Awards. The Distinguished Research Scientist and Distinguished Science Educator Awards recognize excellence in the respective fields. In addition, HAS offers Lifetime Achievement Awards in both science research and science education. One research and one educator award is granted each year.

Nominees will receive a complimentary, one-year HAS membership, and awardees will receive $1,000 cash as well as a plaque to be presented at the academy‘s annual meeting on September 8, 2004 at Tree Tops Restaurant in Mānoa. The deadline to submit applications is August 2, 2004.

The Hawaiʻi Academy of Sciences, a private, non-profit organization founded in 1925, is an affiliate of the American Association for the Advancement of Science. Located in the College of Education building at UH Manoa, its executive council comprise of UH professors and scientists, in addition to representatives from other Hawaii research institutions, who sponsor and support the annual awards. The mission of the HAS is to promote scientific research and education in Hawaiʻi and the Pacific Region. The HAS organizes the Hawaiʻi State Science & Engineering Fair and the Pacific Symposium for Science and Sustainability, two of the most outstanding educational programs in the state.
