Celebrating STEM Education at Honolulu Community College

May the 4th Be With You

(Honolulu) - Honolulu Community College in partnership with the University of Hawai‘i Institute for Astronomy, and the college's Hawaiian Center will be hosting a free public event to celebrate the unofficial fandom holiday of George Lucus’s film Star Wars.

6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.

The evening will feature Star Wars themed presentations by professors with the Institute of Astronomy, star gazing with telescopes, keiki activities, traditional Hawaiian navigation using the star compass with Honolulu CC instructor Kai'ulani Murphy, cosplay, characters with the 501st Legion Hawai'i, and light saber demonstrations presented by the Hawai‘i Light Saber Academy. 

May 4th this year happens to be the last day of instruction for students.  It’s a nice way to celebrate the end of the semester as students prepare for finals and graduation the following week.  Honolulu Community College is committed to its focus in STEM education (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math). 

“We offer a wide range of classes in the STEM areas that includes a degree in Natural Sciences that articulates to the four-year campuses.  In addition, we also excel in cyber security training, and offer a summer engineering program for high school students.  This is a family friendly event, and we encourage the public to come explore Honolulu Community College,” shares Dr. Michael Ferguson, Associate Professor and Division Chair of Natural Sciences and Math.
