Celebrating its 12th year, the Academy for Creative Media (ACM) at UH Mānoa presents its 2016 ACM Awards Showcase Screenings and ACM Awards Ceremony. Designed to bring the UHM community together to celebrate ACM’s student accomplishments, the public is invited to attend these highly anticipated events.

ACM students will debut their newest films during the ACM Awards Showcase Screenings on Friday, April 29, and Saturday, April 30, 2016. These films will be judged by the audience and ACM faculty, with awards to be presented on Friday, May 6, at the ACM Awards Ceremony.

Both screenings begin at 5 p.m. at the Art Auditorium.
At the May 6 awards ceremony, Brenda Ching and SAG/AFTRA will be honored with the ACM Friend Award for continuous support in nurturing ACM filmmakers.

As the leading film school in the Pacific, ACM currently offers a Bachelor of Arts degree through the College of Arts and Humanities at UHM. With over 150 students in one of the fastest growing majors at the University, ACM offers a core curriculum of 39 courses in three distinct tracks: Digital Cinema, Animation and Critical Studies.

ACM Awards Showcase Screenings

During the final week of instruction, ACM will host the Showcase Screenings in the Art Auditorium on the UHM campus. At 5 p.m. on Friday, April 29, and Saturday, April 30, 2016, ACM will show a marathon of all submitted films, which ACM students have been excitedly working on for this special end-of-the-year screening event.

These films will include narratives, documentaries, experimentals and animations. In many cases, this will be the first time an audience has seen these films, so anticipation is high. The audience is encouraged to attend and vote for the Audience Award winner.

ACM filmmakers who will be screening work during the showcase are encouraged to bring all of their cast, crew, family and friends to the screenings and vote. Admission is free.  A panel of faculty judges will select the winning films from several categories.

ACM Awards Ceremony

On Friday, May 6, the ACM Awards Ceremony will be held in the Art Auditorium at 6 p.m., with a reception in the courtyard starting from 5 p.m.  Awards will be presented for Best Drama, Comedy, Documentary, Animation and in other categories. Also, the Maka Maoli Native Vision Indigenous Film Award, Grace Award, Imagine Award and ACM Audience Award honors will be bestowed.
