The UH Mānoa School of Travel Industry Management (TIM) has been granted continued accreditation for its Bachelor of Science degree for the maximum seven-year period from the Accreditation Commission for Programs in Hospitality Administration (ACPHA), the national accrediting organization for all baccalaureate-level hospitality programs.

The news was relayed to TIM Interim Dean Thomas Bingham in a letter dated February 26, 2016, from Commission Chair Jeff Lolli.  “I extend to you on behalf of the full Commission our sincere congratulations on this significant achievement,” wrote Lolli.

Said Dean Bingham, “We are pleased to have met and exceeded the nationally recognized standards set by ACPHA, and we remain dedicated to preparing the next generation of hospitality and tourism professionals for Hawaiʻi and beyond.”

TIM’s reaccreditation period runs until Winter 2022.

George D. Szigeti, president and CEO of the Hawaiʻi Tourism Authority (HTA), noted the TIM School’s contribution to Hawaiʻi’s tourism industry: “The TIM School has been invaluable to Hawaiʻi tourism and its value will only increase as our industry adapts to the evolving growth of global travel. Developing Hawaiʻi’s tourism professionals of tomorrow is vital to our industry’s continued success and meeting visitors’ expectations.”

The TIM School was founded in 1966. It offers both a Bachelor of Science degree where students can select from an emphasis in Hotel and Resort Management or Tourism and Transportation Management, and a Master of Science degree where students can explore management in a broad range of travel and tourism sectors and tailor their specific interests through the selection of electives and/or a research thesis. The TIM School also offers two online certificate programs: Travel Industry Management and Sustainable Tourism.

The TIM School is the only program in the U.S. that combines the three disciplines of Hospitality, Tourism and Transportation.  It has more than 4,000 alumni in Hawaiʻi and throughout the world.

Thomas Bingham – Interim Dean, UH Mānoa School of Travel Industry Management (16 seconds)

“We were given the maximum extension for our accreditation, which is seven years, which means that we passed, surpassed, far exceeded the criteria that they set forth. You can’t get any better than the maximum period.”

Kylie Gee – UH Mānoa Travel Industry Management student (11 seconds)

“I chose to come from the Bay area of California, there are so many options over there on the mainland for hospitality programs, but I chose to come here. I think it does say a lot about how great the school is.”
