Statement by UH President Evan S. Dobelle on Settlement of Faculty Contract

On behalf of the more than 80,000 students throughout our university system, I would like to thank all the members of the negotiating team for their good hard work in resolving this contract without interrupting the semester.

I believe that this contract for our professors recognizes their critical role in the education mission of the university and the need to provide them with competitive and just compensation. Increasing the salaries for our faculty has been a priority of mine since I arrived here just after the strike in 2001. We have a lot of good people doing a lot of good things on all of our ten campuses and I am pleased that with today‘s settlement, their work will continue.
