HONOLULU – Kapi'olani CC’s Respiratory Care Program is among a select group of nationwide programs that will receive the Distinguished RRT Credentialing Success Award by the Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC).  The Registered Respiratory Therapist, or RRT credential, is a standard for professional achievement that measures a program’s success in inspiring its graduates to attain their highest educational aspirations.

This is the fourth consecutive year that Kapi'olani CC’s Respiratory Care Program has received this award, which places Kapi'olani’s program in the top 10% of approximately 450 accredited programs nationwide.

Kathy J. Rye, President of CoARC, stated that in selecting programs for this recognition, the CoARC Board used objective criteria based on key accreditation metrics documented in the 2014 Annual Report of Current Status (RCS). These programs met rigorous requirements, including: “(1) have three or more years of outcomes data; (2) hold accreditation without a progress report; (3) document RRT credentialing success of 90 percent or above, and (4) meet or exceed established CoARC thresholds for credentialing success, attrition and positive (job) placement.”

Robert Vega, Program Director for Respiratory Care and lead instructor Jung Eun Kim will travel to Phoenix, Arizona in July to receive a certificate of recognition for the program’s outstanding commitment to excellence in respiratory care education.
