WHAT:  Signing ceremony for President’s Executive Sustainability Policy at the 3rd Annual Hawai‘i Sustainability in Higher Education Summit 2015

WHO:  UH President David Lassner will electronically sign the new policy using his iPad.

DETAILS:  The University of Hawai‘i continues do its part to help the State of Hawai‘i meet energy independence goals, and the 3rd Annual Hawai‘i Sustainability in Higher Education Summit is charting the course for 21st century campus sustainability. UH’s new sustainability policy has been developed in conjunction with a broad and diverse group of students, staff and faculty from all 10 campuses.  The new policy will help to equip UH graduates with the skills to thrive in the growing global green economy.

This year’s summit will be held at UH Mānoa's Campus Center Ballroom, February 26–28. Themed “Innovation and Action,” this year’s summit has a focus on collaboration, sharing and skill building for sustainability innovation and action in the University of Hawaiʻi System. The three-day event will focus on policy and planning, program sharing and student leadership. Student leaders of the statewide Student Sustainability Coalition of Hawaiʻi are hosting a student summit designed to empower and connect students in their efforts towards sustainable campuses.

Saturday’s student summit  (8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. in the Campus Center Executive Dining Room) is free to all interested students and is designed for students in the sustainability movement to inspire each other and to co-create sustainable campuses.  Two service-learning options at Ka Papa Lo‘i Kanewai and UH’s Student Organic Farm Training (SOFT) will be offered that day from 1:30-3:30 p.m.  For more information on Saturday’s student summit and service-learning projects, please contact Doorae Shin, UH student sustainability coordinator, at doorae@hawaii.edu or (808) 492-3954.
