Talent Development Hawai'i, a five-week summer curriculum designed to give exceptional education opportunities to gifted middle and high school students in Hawai'i, will begin its second year this June. Acceptance in the program is selective. Interested students should sign up by December 22 to take the January 24 SAT. Scores from equivalent nation aptitude or achievement tests will also be considered.

"This program is an outreach effort of UH Mānoa, the foremost academic institution in our state, to our most gifted and talented students," said UH Mānoa Department of Mathematics Associate Chair Karl Heinz Dovermann. "These students represent the future of our state and it is imperative that we support them in reaching their potential."

Talent Development Hawai'i will begin June 14 and run through July 16. Students will attend classes everyday from 8:30 a.m. to noon on the UH Mānoa campus. Students will be able to choose three classes from a variety of course selections including Excursions in Mathematics, Chemistry and Biology in Space, and Computer Graphics. In addition, Calculus I will be offered to qualified students for college credit. All classes were designed and developed by UH Mānoa faculty specifically for gifted children. The deadline to apply to Talent Development Hawai'i is March 1.

Last year‘s Talent Development Hawai'i pilot program was made possible by private support from The Friends and Alumni of the College of Arts & Sciences. The Department of Education, the College of Natural Sciences, and the Hanf Fund all donated materials, supplies, and equipment as well as use of facilities.
