The University of Hawai’i System is working with higher education colleagues and the community to promote sustainability in higher education and our communities across the state.

Sustainability is critical in decision-making and planning for our state and our educational institutions. Over the past year, a Sustainability Strategy has been developed by student leaders, faculty, and staff at the University of Hawai‘i. This led to the January 2014 decision by the UH Board of Regents to amend the mission statement of the university to include a commitment to sustainability.

This marks an important milestone not only for the UH System and higher education in Hawai’i, but all of Hawai’i's communities.  It is in this spirit that we invite you to the 2nd Annual Hawai‘i Sustainability in Higher Education Summit.

The three-day conference will engage participants in four tracks including Policy and Planning; Program Sharing (Curriculum, Operations, Green Workforce Development & Sustainable Businesses); Skill Building and Service Projects; and Student Leadership. Student members of the newly launched statewide Student Sustainability Coalition of Hawai‘i will organize a Student Forum to share experiences of their efforts in working toward more sustainable campuses and to organize cross-campus sustainability projects
