The University of Hawai‘i Bookstores and the University’s official retail store, Rainbowtique, unveil today two new T-shirts designed by UH Mānoa students Brigette Agustin and Avree Ito-Fujita. Their designs were the winners of this past spring’s HI Pride Design Contest, as determined by receiving the most “Likes” on the Mānoa Bookstore’s Facebook page. The shirts are available at all Rainbowtique locations, as well as at the Mānoa Bookstore, and other UH bookstores on select campuses. Proceeds from the sale of these shirts, as with all other items sold at Rainbowtique and the UH Bookstores, support the University of Hawaiʻi in its educational mission.

Brigette Agustin is a junior majoring in Civil Engineering. Her bold graphic of a “shaka”  silhouette “dotting” the “i” in “Hi” was her way of representing her Maui and Hawaiʻi island roots. “I also wanted to show what UH Mānoa students are capable of,” she states. “Go Warriors!”

Kapolei native Avree Ito-Fujita is also a junior, pursuing a major in Creative Media. Her design features an ‘ukulele with the words “HI Pride” forming the head and tuning pegs, and the Hawaiian island chain outlining the body of the musical instrument. She was inspired to enter this year’s contest after seeing the designs by last year’s winners. While Agustin and Ito-Fujita each won prizes of a semester’s worth of textbooks from the Mānoa Bookstore and a Rainbowtique gift certificate, Avree insists, “The greatest prize was the support from the voters.” She adds, “I hope my design conveys the unique spirit of HI Pride.”
