The University of Hawai'i will be hosting the presidents of 15 State Colleges from the Philippines between May 20 - 24.  The educational leaders will be the guests of honor at a reception on Monday, May 20th at 5 p.m. in the Bachman Hall Lobby at the University of Hawai'i at Mānoa.

The college presidents will be taking part in an executive course in Education Management and Leadership, where they will explore executive management skills and a range of topics from research to academic-industry partnerships to community service and extension, and educational quality assurance to national and international standards.

They will learn from the experiences of foreign partner universities, including the University of Hawai'i.

The program selected the UH as a learning site because of the strength of the system's approach to higher education and the key strengths of the university.  The Philippine leaders are interested in the UH’s contribution to Hawai‘i’s economy; research; how the UH improved delivery and access to education throughout the state; marine and agriculture programs; community college innovation; and international programs.

The Filipino delegation will visit the UH System, UH Mānoa, UH West O'ahu, Kapi'olani Community College and Windward Community College.  The delegation has also requested site visits to a marine biology research center, the East-West Center and the Philippine Consulate.

In addition to Hawai‘i, other sites selected for foreign experiential learning include New Zealand (dairy farming), Singapore (world class education hub), Thailand, and Australia, according to the program coordinator.

The program is part of a strategy being implemented by the Philippines Development Academy and the Commission on Higher Education.  It aims to develop and enhance leadership and management skills of senior executives and middle managers of the 110 state universities and colleges (SUCs) throughout the Philippines.

Leaders will return to the Philippines and contribute to strategic action plans related to educational improvements.
