The University of Hawaiʻi Board of Regents is expected to vote at its monthly meeting next week on a request from the UH Mānoa Athletics Department to establish a tiered pricing range schedule for the sports of men‘s basketball, wahine basketball, men‘s volleyball, baseball, softball, water polo, and soccer. A public meeting was held yesterday to get feedback on the pricing schedule.

The proposal includes a tiered pricing range schedule with the price to be determined by the athletic director based on a number of criteria—level of competition, opponent, strength of team, economy and other factors as appropriate. The tier level reflects the standing of the UH opponent, with contests against members of the Bowl Championship Series conferences, for example, falling in the Tier I category.

The price schedules are especially beneficial for students with a reduction in ticket price for UH students and students ages 4-18 for these sports as part of the proposal. In addition, student tickets for women‘s basketball games will be free if the proposal is established, and there will be no premium fees on season tickets for UH students.

The range schedule is proposed for both individual game tickets and season tickets, and would be for the 2003 through 2005 athletic seasons.

For men‘s basketball individual game tickets, the proposal calls for a ticket range of $16-$26 lower, $12-$22 adult upper, $5-$10 student (4-18), $3-$8 UH student upper, and $8-$13 super rooter (lower) for Tier I opponents and $15-$20 lower, $11-$16 adult upper, $5-$10 student (4-18), $3-$8 UH student upper, and $8-$13 super rooter (lower) for Tier II opponents.

Proposed price schedules for men‘s basketball season tickets are $250-$270 lower, $185-$200 adult upper, $79-$89 student, $49-$59 UH student, and $105-$120 super rooter (not including the Rainbow Classic).

For men‘s volleyball, the proposed price range for individual game tickets for Tier I opponents is $14-$19 lower, $11-$16 adult upper, $9-$14 senior citizens upper, and $3-$8 super rooter and UH student/student (4-18). For Tier II opponents, the proposed price range is $13-$18 lower, $10-$15 adult upper, $8-13 senior citizens upper, and $3-$8 super rooter and UH student/student (4-18). For Tier III opponents, ranges are the same as Tier II opponents except for lower ($12-$17) and adult upper ($9-$14) sections. Proposed price schedules for men‘s volleyball season tickets are $155-$165 lower, $115-$120 adult upper, $100-$110 senior citizens upper, and $60-$70 super rooter/UH student/student (4-18).

For baseball, the proposed price range for individual game tickets for Tier I opponents is $8-$13 blue/orange adult, $5-$10 red adult, $3-$8 red UH students/students (4-18), and $6-$11 red senior citizens. For Tier II opponents, the proposed price range is $6-$11 blue/orange adult, $4-$9 red adult, $3-$8 red UH students/students (4-18), and $4-$9 red senior citizens. Proposed price schedules for baseball season tickets are $185-$195 blue/orange adult, $145-$155 red adult, $99-$109 red UH students/students (4-18), and $110-$120 red senior citizens.

Pricing range schedules are also proposed for wahine basketball, softball and soccer, and water polo. The proposal would go into effect upon approval by the Board of Regents. Any increases in the range schedule would require Board approval.

The Board is also expected to vote on a request to release additional season tickets for men‘s basketball, men‘s volleyball, and baseball to the Athletic Department‘s master booster and fundraising organization, ʻAhahui Koa Ānuenue, which if approved, could increase the potential for raising athletic scholarship funds.
