Final Candidates Announced for UH Chief of Staff Position

The final candidates in the search to fill the position of chief of staff for the University of Hawaiʻi have been determined. The chief of staff will provide executive leadership, vision, and management as the chief administrative operational officer and advisor to the president, and will work closely with senior executives to facilitate overall internal university operations and direction.

The final candidates are:

Lyn Anzai — Anzai most recently served as vice president, general counsel and corporate secretary of Hawaiian Airlines, Inc. and Hawaiian Holdings, Inc. where she was responsible for legal and risk management involving corporate, securities, contract, litigation, regulatory and insurance areas. Prior to that, she was senior counsel in the Corporate/Investment Division of Kamehameha Schools. Anzai is a graduate of the William S. Richardson School of Law and also received a master‘s degree in Asian Studies from UH Mānoa.

Sam Callejo — Callejo is currently director of the Office of Capital Improvements for the University of Hawaiʻi system where he coordinates the capital improvements projects for the university‘s 10 campuses. Prior to this position, he was administrative director and chief of staff to former Governor Benjamin Cayetano, and has also served as director and chief engineer and deputy managing director for the City & County of Honolulu. Callejo received a bachelor of science degree in civil engineering from UH Mānoa.

Members of the selection committee for the position include: Deane Neubauer, Chair and Interim Vice President for Academic Affairs; Jerard Yagi, Unit 8 APT Representative; Carolyn Tanaka, Associate Vice President for External Affairs & University Relations; William Pearman, UH West Oʻahu Chancellor; Robert Fox, UH Hilo; Michael Dahilig, UH Student Caucus; Rodney Sakaguchi, UH Mānoa Vice Chancellor for Administration; Dexter Choy, UH Mānoa faculty representative; and Laurie Tomchak, Windward Community College.
