UH Cancer Center partners with Queen's Medical Center to host symposium

The University of Hawaii Cancer Center is partnering with The Queen’s Medical Center to host the 4th Annual Translational Cancer Medicine Symposium: How Do We Reduce Cancer Risks? Altering Pathways to Obesity and Tobacco Use. The event will be held at the Queen’s Conference Center from 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Friday, July 27, 2012.

“There is an urgent need to accelerate discoveries in cancer interventions and treatments,” said University of Hawaii Cancer Center Director Michele Carbone, MD, PhD. “This symposium provides an invaluable opportunity for researchers to share their study findings, exchange ideas and develop new collaborations.”

Waun Ki Hong, MD, a Weinman Distinguished Cancer Researcher and the Division Head at the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, will be the keynote speaker. He will be joined by other distinguished cancer researchers who will discuss their achievements in the areas of tobacco usage and obesity.

The Weinman Foundation Innovators in Cancer Research Fund was established by Barry and Virginia Weinman to promote translational cancer research and collaboration between the University of Hawaii Cancer Center and members of the Hawaii Cancer Consortium.

Cost to attend is $40 per person if payment is received prior to Friday, July 13, 2012. Registration cost will increase to $55 for registrations submitted after that date.
