Professor Ho-min Sohn named recipient of Korea Foundation Award

Dr. Ho-min Sohn, professor of Korean language and linguistics at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa and former director of the Center for Korean Studies, has been named the recipient of the third Korea Foundation Award. The award recognizes Sohn’s contributions to training next-generation educators of Korean language and laying the foundations for Korean language education in the United States.

The Korea Foundation Award was established in 2008 to honor individuals and organizations who have strived to promote awareness and a better understanding of Korea in the global community. The award recipient is chosen from nominees suggested by distinguished scholars and experts from all around the world and is selected by a committee composed of relevant experts.

The award recipient receives a commemorative plaque along with a prize of $10,000. The award was presented to Sohn at a ceremony in Seoul on December 15, 2011.
