UH Football Coach Search Advisory Committee Named

(Honolulu, Hawai‘i) --- The University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa has formed a Search Advisory Committee to screen candidates and make recommendations for the vacant Head Football Coach position vacated this week by former head coach Greg McMackin. The six-member committee is composed of community and university leaders, many with prior experience in such searches and in collegiate and professional football. The committee will have its first meeting on the evening of Monday, December 12, 2011, and the review of applications will begin after 4:30pm that day. The committee membership is:
1. Dr. Rockne Freitas, Vice President for Student Affairs and University/Community Relations at the University of Hawai‘i and former All-Pro Professional football player with the Detroit Lions.
2. Peter Ho, Bank of Hawaii Chairman, President & CEO
3. Bert Kobayashi, Jr. Partner, Kobayashi, Sugita & Goda
4. Duane Kurisu, entrepreneur, owner, PacificBasin Communications and Hawai‘i Sports Network, and the San Francisco Giants
5. Dr. Edison Miyawaki, Cincinnati Bengals football team minority owner, Family Health I and II
6. Jean Rolles, Vice President of Community Affairs, Outrigger Enterprises, Inc.
Athletics Director Jim Donovan is in the process of creating the timetable for the coach search, the charge to the Search Advisory Committee members, and the criteria for evaluation and nomination that the committee will consider. Further details on these issues and others such as salary range and potential length of contract will be forthcoming from the university.
