UH Manoa chancellor search begins

HONOLULU (October 28,2011) – University of Hawai‘i President M.R.C. Greenwood announced today the members of the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa Chancellor Search Advisory Committee and the timeline for selection of the next chancellor of UH Mānoa.
 
Search Advisory Committee
 
The committee is chaired by Dr. Klaus Keil, planetary scientist with UH Mānoa’s Hawai‘i Institute of Geophysics and Planetology, and co-chaired by Regent Emeritus and Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Servco Pacific, Inc. Mark Fukunaga. The first meeting of the 23-member committee will be held on Friday, Oct. 28, 2011 at College Hill.
 
The search committee includes faculty members, graduate and undergraduate students, deans, administrative staff, representatives of Native Hawaiian groups, colleagues from departments such as astronomy, tropical agriculture, education, natural sciences, and the schools of law, medicine, ocean and earth science and technology, and nursing, as well as alumni and community leaders. All share a common interest in the future of UH Mānoa.

The search committee will be assisted in the process by executive search firm Isaacson, Miller, which has a staff of close to 100 recruitment professionals and offices in San Francisco, Boston and Washington, D.C. Isaacson, Miller serves leading educational and research universities, healthcare institutions, non-profit foundations and national advocacy organizations, and successfully completes close to 150 executive searches each year.
 
Search Timeline
 
The screening of applicants and nominees will begin in January 2012, and on-site visits by candidate finalists will be scheduled for March and April of next year.
 
“As part of candidate on-site visits, opportunities will be scheduled and announced for the campus and community at-large to meet the candidates and provide input,” said UH President M.R.C. Greenwood. “We appreciate how deeply this community cares about UH Mānoa and we want to provide them the chance to participate in this process as much as we are able, without violating the privacy of individuals involved.”
 
Greenwood hopes to submit a recommendation to the Board of Regents in late spring 2012.
 
The Board of Regents will act on the president’s recommendation with an anticipated start date of the new chancellor in the summer or early fall 2012.
