The 19th Annual Pacific Rim Conference on Disabilities will be held February 10-11, 2003, revolving around the theme "Collaboration and Change: A Future of Choices for Mind, Body, and Spirit." Three pre-conference activities will be held in conjunction with the Pacific Rim Conference: "Putting Creativity Work," "Arts for All, All For Arts," a showcase of fully accessible performing arts; and "Arts for All, All for Arts," a two-day exhibition during the Pacific Rim Conference. Organizers are looking for creative artists that show expression through drawings, paintings, photograph, and poetry, and are currently accepting submissions through November 1, 2002.

The pre-conference on "Arts for All, All for Arts" will give artists the opportunity to participate in a live art house. This will include music, dance, fun, comedy, film, and drama. It will be held all day on February 9, 2003. The second "Arts for All, All for Arts" consists of a visual exhibition, artist and patron reception, and a two-day art sale on February 8 and 9, 2003. "Putting Creativity Work" is a professional development how-to workshop for artists with disabilities who want to learn more about careers and entrepreneurial skills in the arts, and will also be held on February 8 and 9, 2003.

The Pacific Rim Conference on Disabilities was first held in 1985. Since then, the conference has grown and now includes participants from the U.S. Mainland, Alaska, Pacific Islands Nations, Japan, Australia, the Philippines and many other countries. The conference is geared towards bringing people together to support persons with disabilities. The people involved are not limited to those with disabilities; participants include family members, researchers, policy-makers, and nationally known role models in the field of disabilities. The 2003 theme for the conference was created to reflect the opportunities that exist through partnerships.

Topics at this year‘s event include Arts, Culture, and Disability; Early Childhood; Health for People with Disabilities; Learning and Living; Positive Behavioral Supports; and Postsecondary Education, Transition, and Employment.

The 2003 Annual Pacific Rim Conference is co-presented by VSA arts of Hawaiʻi-Pacific and the University of Hawaiʻi Center on Disability Studies. Proposals should address involvement in arts and culture and disability access to the arts and culture. For submission details and contact information for all activities, visit the VSAarts of Hawaiʻi-Pacific website http://vsarts.hawaii.edu/professional/professional.htm. The deadline for submission has been extended to November 1, 2002.
