The University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa is ranked among the top-tier “Best National Universities” in the 2011 edition of “Best Colleges” published today by U.S. News & World Report. It is also ranked among the top U.S. universities as an “A-Plus School for B Students”—which “truly seek a broad, engaged student body” and “where non-superstars have a decent shot at being accepted and thriving.”

Out of 262 national universities, UH’s flagship campus at Mānoa ranks 159th, and is tied with Texas Tech University and five others. Among the factors weighed as measures of academic quality are peer assessment, graduate and retention rates, faculty resources, student selectivity, financial resources, alumni giving, “graduation rate performance” and high school counselor ratings.

“These rankings are a useful tool as we assess and improve our academic and student success programs,” said Mānoa Chancellor Virginia S. Hinshaw. “It recognizes that UH Mānoa is dedicated to serving as a destination of choice and providing opportunities for transforming lives.”

The print edition of the magazine’s college rankings issue is scheduled to appear on newsstands August 31. For more information, visit www.usnews.com/colleges.
