Former UH head coach Dick Tomey joins panel discussion at Law School

Former UH head coach Dick Tomey joins a panel discussion on "Ethics in College Athletics" with Jim Donovan, director of UH athletics, Nick Rolovich, UH football offensive coordinator and George Rush, head football coach at City College of San Francisco, on Tuesday, July 27, from 6-7:30 p.m. at the UH Mānoa Law School, classroom 2. 

Dick Tomey was the head football coach for the University of Hawai‘i from 1977 to 1986, where he led Hawai‘i to their first in season top-20 Associated Press ranking in 1981. Tomey also earned Western Athletic Conference "Coach of the Year" honors. Years later he accepted the head coaching job at San Jose State, and retired in January 2010 and returned to his home in Hawai‘i.

The panel is part of a public summer conversation series that is held in conjunction with a Law School Ethics Course held annually by visiting professor and money manager Will K. Weinstein.  Will K. Weinstein, money manager and former partner in two very successful investment banking firms, currently teaches at San Francisco State University, and leads a post graduate summer course, “Ethics and Integrity in the Real World,” at the Law School and the Shidler College of Business. This is Weinstein’s seventh summer teaching the course, introducing special guest speakers to the university and helping to make this conversation series available to the public. 

The Will Weinstein summer conversation series kicked off with “Ethics in Philanthropy” with Bernard Osher of the Osher Foundation, ranked in the top 50 most charitable foundations, on July 13.  The other talks are as follows:

Ethics of Capitalism with Kevin Cameron, co-founder of Glass Lewis & Co., LLC; Al Landon, chairman and CEO of Bank of Hawai‘i; and Jay Shidler, founder and managing partner of The Shidler Group           

August 5   

Medical Ethics with Dr. Carolyn Cooper, primary care physician; Rick Fried, J.D., founding member of Cronin, Fried, Sekiya, Kekina & Fairbanks; and Dr. Jerris Hedges, dean of the John A. Burns School of Medicine
