WHAT:

Two new agreements allowing students in information technology and marketing to achieve their four-year degrees will be signed by University of Hawaiʻi–West Oʻahu Chancellor Gene Awakuni and Kapi‘olani Community College (KCC) Chancellor Leon Richards during a 2 p.m. ceremony at KCC.

New agreements take advantage of the Mānanawai Program created in 2008.

The Mānanawai Program is a dual-enrollment, dual-admission that allows students to complete their university degree more quickly and more affordably. The partnership between the two institutions allows students to enroll at both campuses and work toward the completion of a baccalaureate degree.

Students may enroll in the Mānanawai partnership in two ways:
1) Students admitted to UHWO may declare KCC as their home campus and enroll in courses at KCC paying community college tuition rate; or

2) After earning 24 credits and maintaining a 2.0 GPA at KCC, students who are accepted as UHWO transfers may continue to take applicable courses at KCC, attending classes at the community college tuition rate.

Once admitted to this program, students may enroll in courses at either campus, paying the applicable tuition rate seamlessly.

Since its inception in 2008, the Mānanawai Program has ushered in multiple agreements between the two campuses affecting areas such as accounting, culinary management, health care administration, respiratory care, mobile intensive care technician training and disaster preparedness.

Students admitted under the Mānanawai program receive advising at both campuses to help them graduate as efficiently as possible. They will also be eligible to apply for scholarships and grants offered to students upon transfer to UHWO, and afforded the same privileges as all first-year transfer students.
