The first UH Mānoa Global Health Summer Institute will be held at the University of Hawai'i at Mānoa campus from June 20 through July 2.

The Summer Institute’s theme, “New Perspectives in Global Health: Integrating Ecological, Social, and Biological Sciences,” is designed to provide an exciting new forum for interactive dialogue focused on critical global health issues of the Asia-Pacific Region. Four one-week graduate-level courses will be team-taught, with outstanding faculty from UC Berkeley (UCB) and UH Mānoa, as well as from Mae Fah Luang University -Thailand and the Centers for Disease Control.

Specifically, this year's inaugural Summer Institute will focus on four pressing global health challenges, with two courses offered per week at the UH Mānoa Biomedical Science Building:

  • Indigenous Health & Disparities in Public Health (1 credit course; Monday, June 21 – Friday, June 25, 9 a.m.-12 p.m.)
  • Ecology & Health (1 credit course; Monday, June 21 – Friday, June 25, 1-4 p.m.)
  • Public Health Grant Writing (1 credit course; Monday, June 28 – Friday, July 2, 9 a.m.-12 p.m.)
  • Emerging Infectious Diseases: Transitions in the Asia-Pacific Region (1 credit course; Monday, June 28 – Friday, July 2, 1-4 p.m.)
Registration is now open for the 2010 UH Mānoa Global Health Summer Institute, which is coordinated by the UH Mānoa Office of Public Health Studies, in affiliation with the East-West Center.
