HONOLULU – The University of Hawai‘i Foundation has elected Elizabeth Hokada and Arthur Ushijima to its Board of Trustees.
 
Elizabeth Hokada currently serves as director, Financial Assets Division, Kamehameha Schools. Prior to joining Kamehameha in 2005, Hokada worked at the University of Michigan in various investment positions, most recently as director of investments for the marketable portfolio of stocks, bonds, and hedge funds. Earlier positions were at Connecticut National Bank, Manufacturer’s Hanover Bank, Tokyo, and the Office of the State Auditor in Hawai‘i. Hokada also serves on the advisory board of the Entrepreneurs Foundation of Hawai‘i.
 
Hokada earned a BA in history from Yale College and an MBA from the Yale School of Organization and Management.
 
Arthur Ushijima is the president and CEO of Queen's Medical Center and Queen's Health Systems. Prior to joining Queen’s in 1989, Ushijima held executive positions at Akron General Medical Center in Ohio and St. Mary’s Hospital in Missouri. In the past, he served as a captain in the US Air Force medical service corps (1973-80).
 
Ushijima earned his BA from Cornell College and his MA from University of Iowa.
 
He is a board director of Hawai‘i Residency Programs, Inc., a nonprofit corporation established by the UH medical school and six major acute care facilities in Honolulu.
His other current board affiliations are Healthcare Association of Hawai‘i, Aloha Medical Mission Advisory Board, and VHA Inc., a national health care alliance based in Texas. He also served as a member of the search committee for the UH medical school dean.
