This year’s conference will focus on two cancers—liver and prostate. Hawai‘i has the highest incidence of liver cancer in the U.S. due to the large population of Asian and Pacific Islanders who migrate to the islands from countries where Hepatitis B and C are endemic. Liver cancer topics include “The Prevalence of Viral Hepatitis and Liver Cancer in Hawai‘i” and “The Role of Liver Transplantation in Treating Viral Hepatitis and Liver Cancer.”
Unresolved issues abound regarding the best approaches for screening, management and treatment of prostate cancer. Topics on the disease include “The Latest Radiation Treatment Options for Prostate Cancer” and “Helping Patients Cope with the Changes in Their Couples and Sexual Relationships.”
Each disease section will conclude with a panel discussion inviting questions from the audience. Health and cancer-related exhibits will also be open to the public. Participating exhibitors include the American Cancer Society, Bayer Oncology, Gilead Sciences, Hawai‘i Coalition for Prostate Cancer, Hepatitis Support Network of Hawai‘i, Lance Armstrong Foundation, Oncology on Canvas, and the Queen’s Cancer Center.
This event is made possible through support of the Friends of the Cancer Research Center of Hawai‘i.
