Bruce Morris from Disney Feature Animation will share his experiences during his lecture “What is a Story? The Art of Visual Storytelling” at Kapiʻolani Community College on Wednesday, February 24 from 7 - 9 p.m.

He will take attendees through the process of telling a story visually for film using lighting, color, staging and design, as well as music and editing. A discussion will follow the lecture.

Afraid of anything that smacked of real work, Morris learned to draw and how to tell stories visually. This launched his career at the Walt Disney Studios as an animator, and he subsequently used his unique visuals and storytelling ability to get into the Disney Animation Story Department.

To date he has been a key writer and visual storyteller on over 14 animated features including “The Great Mouse Detective”, “The Little Mermaid”, “Pocahontas”, “Hercules”, “Finding Nemo”, “Planet 51”, and “The Princess and the Frog”.

He is an alumni and past professor of Story Development for California Institute of the Arts and a member of the Motion Picture Academy of Arts and Sciences.

Morris will also lead a storyboarding workshop on Thursday, February 25 from 10:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. at Kapiʻolani Community College’s Koa Building, room 102. Reservations are required. Call 735-3879 for reservations or more information.

The lecture and workshop are free and open to the public with special support provided by The Wallis Foundation.
