Dr. Robert J. Littman, professor of Classics in the UH Mānoa Department of Languages and Literatures of Europe and the Americas, has been elected a Trustee of the Archaeological Institute of America (AIA).  The AIA is a national organization of 220,000 archaeologists and lay members, headquartered in Boston. 
 
Educated at Oxford and Columbia Universities, Littman has been at UH Mānoa for 38 years. He is a world renowned scholar in the areas of Greek history and literature, ancient medicine, Septuagint studies, and archaeology.  The author of numerous scholarly books and articles, Littman has excavated in Israel and Egypt, and is currently the Director of the Tell Timai Excavation in Egypt, where he also runs an archaeological field school in the summer.   
 
Littman has been President of the Archaeological Institute of America, Hawaiʻi Society since 1997, and involved with the national Archaeological Institute of America for 20 years.
