Diwali Festival of Lights celebration at UH Hilo

The University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo Center for Global Education and Exchange is hosting the “Diwali Festival of Lights” on Wednesday, October 14, in recognition and celebration of the Indian national holiday. Diwali is a five-day Hindu religious celebration for the “uplifting of spiritual darkness” as well as to celebrate the return of the God Rama. The festival coincides with the 13th day of the lunar month.

“Take a Journey Through India” at 11 a.m. in UCB 127 on October 14 and learn about Indian spices and cuisine, see the latest sari fashions, a Bollywood dance, and view Henna body art. At 5:30 p.m., the English-subtitled Bollywood film, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, will be shown in UCB 118, taking viewers on a voyage through Europe and India.

These events are free and open to the public.
