Clarice Kali is the recipient of the Kauaʻi Community College Chancellor’s Award.  Kali is a clerk steno at Kauaʻi CC.  She has been described as very dedicated, responsible, pleasant and professional.  Her peers notice and appreciate her work ethic and her willingness to undertake additional responsibilities without reservation or reluctance.  Once committed, she is determined, focused and purposeful. Kali’s customer service demeanor is superb, and blended with proficiency and intangible qualities that define who she is.  Kali is indeed an invaluable individual who learns quickly and often refines procedures to enhance efficiency.

Jon Lightfoot is the recipient of the Maui Community College Chancellor’s Award.  Lightfoot is the technical coordinator for Ka Lama building and administrator of the Ka Lama Computer Lab at Maui CC.  Lightfoot goes above and beyond his duties in keeping the Ka Lama Computer Center and classrooms in good working order.  He is a member of the student tech fee committee and has done an excellent job coordinating equipment purchases.  Lightfoot works well with others to ensure computer classrooms are up-to-speed, and he responds immediately to any problem, no matter how small.  His expertise in invaluable, and he is always willing to take the time to assist faculty, staff and students with technical issues.

Frank Mattos is the recipient of the Windward Community College Chancellor’s Award.  Mattos was a professor in English at Windward CC before his retirement in June.  Mattos’ students use words like “respect” and “sensitive” when speaking of him.  Always a student himself, and active in guiding teachers, Mattos was the prime mover to establish service learning at Windward CC for the last 14 years.  Service learning is academically based community service, and he developed the program so that there are now several hundred students involved at 36 service sites.  From tutoring to teaching art at the Hawaiʻi State Hospital, the Windward CC students are in the community and Mattos was the tireless coordinator of that effort.

Merle Miyauchi is the recipient of the Leeward Community College Chancellor’s Award.  Miyauchi served as an office assistant III at Leeward CC before retiring last December.  She was with the university for nearly 40 years of which she dedicated 26 years to serving Leeward CC.  As the primary contact for the Business Office when purchasing questions arose, Miyauchi always remained patient, calm and understanding to every situation and earned the trust and respect of her peers.  Her hard work and extreme knowledge of the university’s policies and procedures made Leeward CC the leader in purchasing.  A strong advocate to serve the college selflessly, Miyauchi faithfully volunteered her time and services at numerous campus events.
