UH Manoa College of Education programs earn national recognition

The UH Manoa College of Education recently received national recognition for seven programs from professional associations affiliated with the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE).

The review process entailed developing standards-based assessment systems for teacher candidates to ensure they meet the highest standards of both the individual disciplines and the profession.

Faculty members who helped to secure national approval for their programs were Associate Specialist Scott Robinson and Assistant Specialist Jon Yoshika for Science (MEdT), Assistant Professor Sarah Twomey and Assistant Professor Eva Ponte for English Language Arts (MEdT), Assistant Professor Doris Christopher for World Languages (Secondary BEd and PBCSE), Assistant Professor Cristy Kessler for Social Studies (MEdT), Assistant Professor Deborah Zuercher for Elementary Education (MEdT), and Department Chair Amelia Jenkins for Special Education (Teachers of Individuals with Mild to Moderate Disabilities, PBSPED).

The College of Education recently submitted four additional programs for national review and will have the results in summer 2009.
