Kathleen McNally selected as new UH Hilo athletic directorUniversity of Hawaiʻi
McNally joins UH Hilo after serving as director of athletics and recreational services at Gannon University in Erie, PA from January 1998 to July 1999. At the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division II institution, she directed the administrative and operational aspects of the program, which consisted of 21 varsity sports. She prepared and supervised the expenditure of a $1.8 million operating budget and managed the athletic related aid budget of $1.6 million. McNally also supervised the budget, personnel and activities of Gannon's recreational center that incorporated intramural, general recreation and fitness facilities and activities. She oversaw a staff of 55 individuals and a student-athlete population of 475.
Prior to Gannon, McNally served as assistant athletic director/senior woman administrator as well as compliance and eligibility administrator and equity in athletic officer at LaSalle University (Philadelphia, PA) from 1976 to 1998.
McNally's professional and leadership experience includes the NCAA, the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA), and the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Association (ECAC). Her honors include Athletic Hall of Fame at West Chester University (1995), Coaches Hall of Fame at South Jersey Field Hockey (1994), and Coach of the Year in field hockey (1980). McNally also has eight years of teaching and coaching experience at the high school level.
McNally holds a bachelor of science in health and physical education (K-12) from West Chester University (1969), West Chester, PA, and is currently working on a masters in professional communications from LaSalle University.
McNally and her husband have six children and six grandchildren.
McNally was selected from a pool of 48 candidates nationwide.
