HONOLULU - The Marching Band at the University of Hawaii‘s Mānoa campus is one of only five bands chosen for top national honors by the College Band Directors National Association (CBDNA).

"I‘ve always felt that our UH Marching Band was one of the best in the country, and I‘m happy to know that my feeling is shared by our nation‘s professional band directors," says Interim Chancellor Denise Eby Konan.

UH Marching Band Director Brandt Payne will address and present a videotape of the UH Marching Band at the CBDNA national conference later this month at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

"I‘m excited because this gives much-deserved national recognition to our band‘s 240 students and outstanding music program at UH Manoa," said Payne.

The UH Marching Band was chosen for the honor from among entries across the country. UH entered a tape of its November 11, 2006, performance of Latin music and dance staged at the Rainbow Invitational Band Festival at Aloha Stadium.

Other selected university bands are from Auburn, Clemson, Middle Tennessee State, and Texas State.
