HONOLULU — Alumni and friends of the University of Hawaiʻi are invited to join faculty, students and staff to "Share the Pride" at the fourth "UH Day at the State Capitol" celebration, Friday, Jan. 19, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. This showcase of the university‘s excellence and diversity will feature people and programs from all 10 UH campuses, and more than 100 exhibits allowing all who attend to experience a glimpse of what makes UH great.

This year‘s event holds additional significance as the university celebrates 100 years of higher education in Hawaiʻi with the launch of its Centennial Celebration. Parents and students are encouraged to visit the State Capitol on UH Day and learn first-hand about the courses, programs and degrees offered through the university‘s 10 campuses.

"Since opening our doors in 1907, UH has evolved into a world-renowned institution of higher learning," said UH President David McClain. "We are grateful to the Legislature for allowing us to share the many programs and services of the university that demonstrate our contributions to the state, answering the challenges of expanding and diversifying our economy and supporting our communities."

Activities spanning the rotunda and third and fourth floors of the capitol building, as well as the ʻewa lawn, will include exhibits, demonstrations, food samples, presentations by university experts and live performances of dance and music. Featured displays include a steel bridge, a mock crime scene, glass blowing demonstrations, and viewing of student films and animation work.

University experts will present brief lectures on topics ranging from Hawaiʻi‘s dams and earthquakes to traffic congestion and eldercare. Entertainment will be provided by the UH Mānoa Chinese Music and Tahitian Ensembles, the University Lab School Band, and the UH Hilo Samoan dance group, Tupulaga O Sāmoa Mo A Taeao.
