Jan Javinar, UH Manoa Director of Co-curricular Activities, Programs and Services (CAPS), has received the 2006 Don and Noel Hinde Distinguished Service award for the western US and Pacific region.

The award recognizes longtime student union and student activities professionals who have made exceptional contributions to their organizations. It was presented at the Region 15 conference of the Association of College Unions International (ACUI) on the Big Island earlier this month.

Javinar has been with the University of Hawaiʻi since 1982, mostly at Manoa, but including time at Honolulu Community College in the Student Life office in the mid-1980s. He has been in his current position since 1995.

The ACUI Distinguished Service Award is named for Don Hinde and his wife, Noel. Hinde was active in student union administration for more than 40 years at Cal State Sacramento and at Bowling Green University in Ohio.

Five hundred students and staff from fifty member colleges and universities in California, Nevada, Hawaiʻi, Guam and Australia make up the ACUI Region 15. The organization held its regional conference at UH Hilo November 16-18, 2006.
