University of Hawaiʻi and Victoria University of Wellington Form Partnership

WHAT: The University of Hawaiʻi and Victoria University
of Wellington will sign into a cooperative agreement, which allows for scholarly
exchange of faculty and students, as well as joint research projects and curriculum
development between the two institutions.



WHEN: Tuesday, November 27 10 a.m.



WHERE: John Young Museum of Art Library, Krauss Hall UH Manoa campus



PROGRAM: UH President Evan S. Dobelle and Victoria University
of Wellington Vice Chancellor Stuart McCutcheon will sign the cooperative
agreement. Serving as witnesses will be UH Senior Vice President and Chancellor
for Community Colleges Joyce Tsunoda, who is also President Dobelle‘s
senior advisor for international affairs, as well as Victoria University
of Wellington Assistant Vice Chancellor Peter Englert.

BACKGROUND



The University of Hawaiʻi and Victoria University of Wellington are interested
in exploring and engaging in mutual cooperation to foster bicultural/multicultural
Pacific-oriented teaching and research for the benefit of students and faculty
members from both universities and their societies. The agreement provides the
basis for cooperation in teaching and research, mutual advice on development
of cooperation amongst Pacific universities, and the establishment of joint
programs of teaching and research important for the state of Hawaiʻi and
New Zealand, as well as the Hawaiian, Maori and Pacific Nations peoples.



The various units of the University of Hawaiʻi system maintain cooperative
agreements with institutions in over 25 countries around the world. These international
exchange agreements allow for scholarly exchange of faculty and students, as
well as joint research projects and curriculum development between UH and international
institutions.
