UH Manoa College of Education faculty receives national recognition

HONOLULU - Dr. Michael D‘Andrea and Dr. Brenda Cartwright of UH Mānoa‘s College of Education (COE) Department of Counselor Education have each received a national award at a recent counseling convention for research in the area of multicultural competence. Their work appeared in the Journal of Counseling and Development in an article co-authored by COE alumnus Bryan Kim and graduate student Penelope Asay.

D‘Andrea and Cartwright received two awards from the American Counseling Association (ACA) and the Association for Assessment in Counseling (AAC). The ACA is the world‘s largest professional counseling association and provides multiple avenues of support and development to the counseling profession. The AAC stands as a division of the ACA and also servers to further the professional aspects of educational counseling.

This is the third national research award for both D‘Andrea and Cartwright. D‘Andrea is currently a professor in the Department of Counselor Education, and has been a faculty member for more than 16 years. Dr. Cartwright is an associate professor of the department, and has been at the COE for four years.
