Chairwoman and CEO of Hawaiʻi public relations, advertising, marketing and interactive communication firm Communications Pacific, Lagareta joined the BOR in 2003 and served as vice chair for the past two years. A UH Mānoa graduate, she is involved in a range of business, professional and public service activities. She is past president of the Rotary Club of Honolulu, on the executive committee of Enterprise Honolulu and served two terms on the Chamber of Commerce of Hawaiʻi board.
Pacific Business News named Lagareta its first Businesswoman of the Year in 1999 and Junior Achievement of Hawaiʻi inducted her into the Hawaiʻi Business Hall of Fame in 2002. The following year, the Hawaiʻi Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America named her Public Relations Professional of the Year, and the Hawaiʻi Chapter of the March of Dimes honored her with the Franklin Delano Roosevelt National Award for Distinguished Community Service.
Tanaka, who also joined the BOR in 2003, is President and CEO of Pacific Transfer LLC, a full service transportation and moving company. He received his BBA and MBA degrees from the University of Hawaiʻi‘s College of Business Administration. Tanaka serves on the Board of Directors of Hawaiʻi Stevedores and the Aloha Council, Boy Scouts of America.
In addition, the BOR welcomed new members Ronald K. Migita and Allan R. Landon to the board. A graduate of the University of Hawaiʻi, Migita is chairman of the board for Central Pacific Bank after serving as vice chairman and chief executive officer of City Bank. He is a graduate of the Pacific Coast Banking School at the University of Washington and the Advanced Management Program at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa. He is president of the Public Schools of Hawaiʻi Foundation and serves on the Board of Directors of the Aloha Council and National Executive Board of the Boy Scouts of America. Migita is also a member of the 200 Club and the Air Force Civilian Advisory Council.
Chairman and chief executive officer of Bank of Hawaiʻi, Landon received his BS from Iowa State University and also attended executive programs at Duke and Northwestern Universities. An accountant by education, he was a partner with Ernst and Young LLP before a career change brought him to Bank of Hawaiʻi. Landon serves as vice chairman of the board for Hawaiʻi Medical Services Association. He is also on the Board of Directors of the Hawaiʻi Business Roundtable, Public Schools of Hawaiʻi Foundation, Hawaiʻi Council for the Humanities and Catholic Charities of Hawaiʻi. He is a member of the Military Affairs Council of the Chamber of Commerce of Hawaiʻi, and previously served as a director of the University of Hawaiʻi Foundation.
In addition to Lagareta and Tanaka, Migita and Landon join current board members Andres Albano, Jr., partner and vice president of commercial real estate brokerage CB Richard Ellis Hawaiʻi; Byron W. Bender, UH Mānoa emeritus professor of linguistics; Ramón S. de la Peña, retired agronomist and emeritus researcher in the UH Mānoa College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resources; James J.C. Haynes II, chief executive officer of Maui Petroleum; Jane B. Tatibouet, executive vice president of AST Holdings, a hotel management and development company; and Myron A. Yamasato, vice president of finance with the Waikoloa Land Company. Student Regent Trent K. Kakuda has extended his term on the board at the request of Gov. Linda Lingle.
