HONOLULU — Three University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa graduate students were recently selected as members of the Presidential Management Fellows (PMF) Program‘s Class of 2005. Established in 1977 by President Jimmy Carter, the PMF Program is designed to attract to the Federal Service outstanding graduate students from a wide variety of academic disciplines who are interested in and committed to a career in the federal government.

Selected as part of the Class of 2005 from UH Mānoa are Michelle Lombardo, a graduate student in environmental sciences and natural resources; Danna Ponce, a student in the William S. Richardson School of Law; and Morgan Tulang, a graduate student in business management and administration.

The PMF Program is a two-year fellowship program, which enables students who have completed graduate degree requirements to be appointed to federal positions as PMFs and to also have the opportunity to be converted to a permanent federal position following their successful fellowship.

Students are nominated for the PMF Program by the dean, director or chairperson of their graduate academic program for demonstrating breadth and quality of accomplishments, capacity for leadership, and a commitment to excellence in the leadership and management of public policies and programs. The nomination process is extremely competitive as they compete with other nominated graduate students from across the nation.
