Statement from UH interim president David McClain about the appointment status of Dr. Peter Englert
University of Hawaiʻi at MānoaPeter Englert was appointed chancellor of the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa on August 1, 2002 for a term of three years. His appointment agreement automatically terminates on July 31, 2005 unless the Board of Regents acts to extend the agreement. I have conducted an evaluation of Dr. Englert‘s performance, and based on that evaluation I will not recommend to the Board that it act to extend his appointment agreement. I have apprised the Board of my decision, and the Board has indicated to me its support for that decision.
Dr. Englert holds a tenured full professor position in the Hawaiʻi Institute of Geophysics and Planetology, to which he will return August 1, 2005, at an annual salary of $165,600. As is customary with new hires in the sciences, he will receive a "startup package" of research support funds of $100,000 per year for three years.
