MIX Summer Programs (Outbound)
MIX Summer Program Tuition Categories:
Regular Exchange - UHM students are nominated to the partner university by MIX, and then complete the overseas institution's application process. Students register and pay tuition & fees through UHM Summer Sessions rather than to the overseas institution, and are also responsible for paying their own travel & living expenses. Students can apply for summer loans through UHM Financial Aid Services.
Independent - UHM students apply directly to the overseas summer program. Students pay tuition & fees directly to the overseas institution, and are also responsible for paying their own travel & living expenses; students do not register or pay tuition to UHM Summer Session. Students on Independent programs are not eligibile to receive a summer award from UHM Financial Aid Services.
International Summer University (ISUP) at Copenhagen Business School
- TYPE: Regular Exchange
- DURATION: Six-week program for students from all over the world in Denmark (June 22 - Aug 2, 2013).
- CREDITS: Students may earn 6 transfer credits. Students should consult an academic advisor about applying these credits towards their degree requirements.
- ACADEMICS: This program is open to Business majors only. Students can choose from a wide range of classic business courses, as well as more diverse courses that draw on other academic disciplines. See Rikki Mitsunaga (BusAd B-101) for more information on this program.
- HOUSING: Students may apply for housing in CBS Student Residences.
Reims Management School Summer Programme
- TYPE: Regular Exchange
- DURATION: Two-week session in Reims, France. There are four 2-week sessions offered in summer 2013: June 2-14, June 16-28, June 30-July 12, and July 14-26.
- CREDITS: Students may earn 6 transfer credits per session (two 3-credit courses). Students should consult an academic advisor about applying these credits towards their degree requirements.
- ACADEMICS: This program is open to graduate students in Business only. See Rikki Mitsunaga (BusAd B-101) for more information on this program.
- HOUSING: Housing assistance is provided; students may live on campus or in the city center.
WHU European Bachelor Summer Institute
- TYPE: Regular Exchange
- DURATION: Two-week program in Vallendar, Germany. Program runs June 2-15, 2013.
- CREDITS: Students may earn 4 transfer credits. English is the language of instruction. Students should consult an academic advisor about applying these credits towards their degree requirements.
- ACADEMICS: This program is for undergraduate Business majors only. See Rikki Mitsunaga (BusAd B-101) for more information on this program. Students are in class Monday through Friday. English is the language of instruction
- HOUSING: Students live in on-campus single rooms; the housing cost for two weeks is approx. $400. There are restaurants and supermarkets close to the dormitories, and dorms have shared kitchen facilities.
- MORE INFO: Students pay a WHU registration fee (approx. $500), which covers course materials, chartered airport shuttle on first & last day of program, welcome reception, lunches, and farewell dinner, excursions and company visits, local bus ticket. Participants must pay their own international airfare and breakfasts/dinners, and should allocate for personal spending/travel money for the weekends.

- DURATION: Participants choose one two-week session: Session I (May 5-17, 2013) OR Session II (May 19-31, 2013).
- CREDITS: Students may earn 3 transfer credits per session. English is the language of instruction. Students should consult an academic advisor about applying these credits towards their degree requirements.
- ACADEMICS: This program is for graduate MBA students only. The focus is on The Changing Environment for International Business in Europe.

Chinese University of Hong Kong International Summer School
- TYPE: Regular Exchange
- DURATION: Six-week program in Hong Kong (July 2 - August 5, 2013).
- CREDITS: Students may earn 6 or 9 transfer credits. Students should consult an academic advisor about applying these credits towards their degree requirements.
- ACADEMICS: In addition to Chinese language, courses in business, engineering, environmental studies, humanities, and social sciences are offered. Many courses focus on the Asian of Chinese perspective. The program is truly international, with about 650 students from over 36 different countries!
- HOUSING: On-campus housing is available; student dormitories are double- or triple-occcupancy with shared kitchen and living spaces. Students can dine in on-campus canteens.
Reims Management School - Beijing Summer School
- TYPE: Regular Exchange
- DURATION: Four-week session in Beijing, China (June 24 - July 19, 2013). Program includes company visits and guest lectures.
- CREDITS: Students may earn up to 8 transfer credits (courses are 2-credits each). Students should consult an academic advisor about applying these credits towards their degree requirements.
- ACADEMICS: This program is open only to graduate students in Business. The academic focus is on Business strategy and Management in China. Prospective applicants should see Rikki Mitsunaga (BusAd B-101) for more information on this program.
- HOUSING: On-campus accommodations (single or double rooms) are available for participants.
Fudan University International Summer Session
- TYPE: Independent
- DURATION: Five-week session in Shanghai, China.
- CREDITS: Students may earn up to six transfer credits.
- ACADEMICS: Courses are offered in Chinese Society and Politics, Chinese History and Culture, Chinese Economy and Management, and Chinese Language (Elementary, Intermediate, Upper-Intermediate, Advanced).
- HOUSING: Accommodations are available in the Fudan Foreign Students Dormitory (single or double rooms).
Zhejiang University Short-Term Summer Program
- TYPE: Independent
- DURATION: Four weeks (early June - early August) in Huangzhou, China
- CREDITS: Transfer credits to be determined.
- ACADEMICS: The academic focus is on Chinese Language acquisition. Elementary, Intermediate, and Advanced levels are offered.
- HOUSING: Accommodations are available in the International Student Dormitory.
Akita International University Summer Program
- TYPE: Regular Exchange
- DURATION: Six-week program in Akita, Japan (June 17-July 26, 2013). This is an excellent program for students who have little to no prior Japanese language experience.
- CREDITS: Students may earn 6 transfer credits. Students should consult an academic advisor about applying these credits towards their degree requirements.
- ACADEMICS: This is an intensive Japanese language program. Three different levels of elementary Japanese language are offered on the program (students take a placement test upon arrival).
- HOUSING: Participants live in furnished on-campus dorms, double rooms, with a Japanese or international roommate. Students purchase a meal plan to take three meals per day in the on-campus Cafeteria.
Hiroshima and Peace Summer Program at Hiroshima City University
- TYPE: Regular Exchange
- DURATION: Two-week program at Hiroshima City University in Japan (late July-early August).
- CREDITS: Participants register for PACE-485 and earn three UHM credits (not transfer credit).
- ACADEMICS: Students learn about many aspects of war and peace. This program is open to students in all majors, and may be of particular interest to students in Peace Studies and social sciences. Watch Hiroshima & Peace videos on YouTube.
- HOUSING: Home-stay accommodations are arranged. Families prepare breakfast and dinner.
- OTHER: UHM students who participate in this program are eligible for an 80,000 Yen scholardhip from HCU.
Kanazawa Institute of Technology IJST (Intensive Japanese for Science and Technology) program
- TYPE: Regular Exchange
- DURATION: Six-week program in Kanazawa, Japan (late May-mid July).
- CREDITS: Students may earn 12 transfer credit. Students should consult an academic advisor about applying these credits towards their degree requirements.
- ACADEMICS: The program is comprised of a Cultural Course (4 credits) and Japanese Language (8 credits). Students will learn special terms that can be used in the field of science and technology, as well as conversational Japanese. Students also learn how to operate a computer in an Japanese language environment.
- HOUSING: Students are housed in on-campus apartments.
Summer Ritsumeikan APU Gateway Program
- TYPE: Independent
- DURATION: Eight-week program in Beppu, Japan (June 3 - Aug 1, 2013).
- CREDITS: Students may earn up to 12 transfer credits. Students should consult an academic advisor about applying these credits towards their degree requirements.
- ACADEMICS: Japanese language courses from beginner to intermediate level. Expand your knowledge of Japanese language and increase your intercultural understanding. Students from over 80 countries participate in this international and multi-cultural program!
- HOUSING: Students are housed in the AP House on-campus dormitory.
Sophia University Summer Session in Japanese Languages
- TYPE: Independent
- DURATION: Intensive six-week program (June 10 - July 19, 2013) in Tokyo.
- CREDITS: Students may earn 5 transfer credits. Students should consult an academic advisor about applying these credits towards their degree requirements.
- ACADEMICS: This program is for students who want to improve their Japanese language abilities. Beginner and intermediate levels available. Aside from Japanese language courses, students will attend a lecture series on Japanese Studies which provides insights on culture, society, economy, and history.
- HOUSING: Students may apply for housing in Sophia University dormitories or apartments.
Sophia University Summer Session in Asian Studies
- TYPE: Independent
- DURATION: Four-week program (July 25 - Aug 14, 2013) in Tokyo.
- for students to reflect on Japan and its role in the world.
- CREDITS: Students may earn 6 transfer credits (3 per course). Students should consult an academic advisor about applying these credits towards their degree requirements.
- ACADEMICS: Asian Studies courses are supplemented by cultural field trips. Students may choose from a variety of Asian Studies courses offered.
- HOUSING: Students may apply for housing in Sophia University dormitories or apartments.
Tohoku University Science Summer Program
- TYPE: Independent
- DURATION: One week program (July 4-12, 2013).
- CREDITS: Students may earn 1 transfer credit (3 ECTS); this program is mainly for experience.
- ACADEMICS: This program is designed for undergraduates majoring in science and engineering. In-class lectures are combined with academic activities such as group work sessions, presentations, and field trips to laboratory facilities.
- HOUSING: Students are placed in on-campus housing.
- MORE INFO: UHM students are offered free tuition and field trip.
Chung-Ang University International Summer School
- TYPE: Regular Exchange or Independent
- DURATION: Three-week program in Seoul, Korea (Session 1: June 28-July 23, Session 2: Aug 5-26).
- CREDITS: Participants may earn three transfer credits per session. Students should consult an academic advisor about applying these credits towards their degree requirements.
- ACADEMICS: Session 1 has an emphasis on Korean Society and Culture; Session 2 has a focus on learning Korean Language.
- HOUSING: Students may apply to stay in an on-campus residence hall. UHM students receive very affordable subsidized housing.
Chungnam National University International Summer School
- TYPE: Regular Exchange
- DURATION: Three week program in Daejeon, Korea (late July to mid-August).
- CREDITS: To be determined. Students should consult an academic advisor about applying these credits towards their degree requirements.
- ACADEMICS: Students take Korean language classes in the morning, and participate in cultural activities and field trips in the afternoon.
- HOUSING: Students stay in a Dormitory; accommodation costs include two meals per day.
Ewha Womans University International Co-Ed Summer College
- TYPE: Regular Exchange
- DURATION: Session 1: June 26-July 24, 2013 (four weeks). Session 2: Aug 7-21, 2013 (two weeks).
- CREDITS: Students may earn 6 transfer credits in Session 1, or 3 transfer credits in Session 2. Students should consult an academic advisor about applying these credits towards their degree requirements.
- ACADEMICS: Courses in Korean Language, plus Korean and Asian Studies courses taught in English are offered. Students with advanced Korean language skills may take regular academic classes taught in Korean.
- HOUSING: Students may apply for on-campus housing in the International House or Graduate Student Dormitory.
- TYPE: Regular Exchange
- DURATION: Three-week program in Incheon, Korea (August 5-23, 2013). Incheon is on the west coast of Korea, about 30 km from Seoul.
- CREDITS: Students may earn five transfer credits: Korean Culture Workshop (1 credit) and two Electives (2 credits each). Students should consult an academic advisor about applying these credits towards their degree requirements.
- ACADEMICS: Basic, Intermediate, and Advanced Korean Language courses are offered. Classes include some local field trips. The program consists of about 500 students from all over the world.
- HOUSING: Dormitory housing and on-campus dining (3 meals per day) are available.
Korea University International Summer Campus
- TYPE: Regular Exchange OR Independent
- DURATION: Six-week program in Seoul, Korea (July 1 - Aug 8, 2013).
- CREDITS: Students earn 6-9 credits (students may take 2-3 courses, worth 3 credits each). Students should consult an academic advisor about applying these credits towards their degree requirements.
- ACADEMICS: Academic areas include Korean Language, Business and Economics, Humanities, Sociology and Cultural Studies, Fine Art and Design, Science, Politics and International Relations, Korean and East Asian Studies, and Law.
- HOUSING: Students may live in the CJ International House on-campus residences.
Kyungpook National University English Summer Session
- TYPE: Regular Exchange
- DURATION: Four-week program (late June-July) in Daegu, Korea.
- CREDITS: Students may earn 6 transfer credits. Students should consult an academic advisor about applying these credits towards their degree requirements.
- ACADEMICS: This international program offers courses taught in English about various aspects of Korean culture.
- HOUSING: Students stay in on-campus dormitories; breakfast is included in housing fee.
Seoul National University International Summer Institute (SNU ISI)
- TYPE: Independent
- DURATION: Six-week program in Seoul, Korea (June 25 - July 30, 2013).
- CREDITS: Students may earn 6-9 transfer credits. Students should consult an academic advisor about applying these credits towards their degree requirements.
- ACADEMICS: Courses taught in English are offered in a variety of different academic areas. Additionally, students may take Korean language courses (four levels are offered).
- HOUSING: Students may choose SNU Student Dormitories or off-campus studio apartments.
University of Seoul International Summer School
- TYPE: Regular Exchange
- DURATION: Five-week program in Seoul, Korea (June 28 - July 26, 2013).
- CREDITS: Students may earn six transfer credits. Students should consult an academic advisor about applying these credits towards their degree requirements.
- ACADEMICS: Learn about Korean language (beginner & intermediate) and Korean culture (Asian Studies, International Studies); culture courses are taught in English.
- HOUSING: UHM students are reimbursed for the housing fee (program includes free housing for UHM students).
- MORE INFO: UHM exchange students do not pay registration fee, and are partially reimbursed for the optional field trip.
Sogang Korean Studies Summer Program
- TYPE: Independent
- DURATION: Five-week program in Seoul, Korea (June 24 - July 26, 2013).
- CREDITS: Students may earn 6-9 transfer credits for Korean Studies and Korean Language. Students should consult an academic advisor about applying these credits towards their degree requirements.
- ACADEMICS: Courses on Korean language and Korean Studies Seminars. Program includes weekly cultural field trips.
- HOUSING: Students stay in on-campus dormitories; on-campus dining is available.
Sookmyung International Summer School (SISS)
- TYPE: Regular Exchange
- DURATION: Session 1: July 1-22, 2013. Session 2: Aug 1-22, 2-13.

- ACADEMICS: Courses in basic Korean language & culture are offered. SISS provides a thriving environment where Sookmyung and other international students can have the culturally dynamic and global experience in the nation's capital city Seoul, Korea.

Yonsei University International Summer School (YISS)
- TYPE: Regular Exchange
- DURATION: Six-week program in Seoul, Korea (June 25 - Aug 11, 2013).

National University of Singapore Summer School Programme
- TYPE: Independent
- DURATION: Four week program, June 17-July 20, 2013.
- CREDITS: Students may earn 4 credits per module. Students should consult an academic advisor about applying these credits towards their degree requirements.
- ACADEMICS: Southeast Asian Cultural Studies.
- HOUSING: On-campus housing is available. Accommodations are provided on all field trips.
NUS Summer Programme (Business)
- TYPE: Independent
- DURATION: Two week program, July 8-19, 3013.
- CREDITS: This program does not bear any academic credits; participation is for experience only.
- ACADEMICS: For Business students only. The academic focus of the program is on Entrepreneurship and international commerce. The program includes guest speakers, group discussions, team projects, and company visits.
- HOUSING: Students stay in an NUS student hostel.
National Sun Yat-sen University International Summer School
- TYPE: Independent
- DURATION: Two 2-week sessions, Session 1: July 17-30, session 2: July 31-Aug 13, 2013. Students attend NSYSU's seaside campus in Kaohsiung.
- CREDITS: Students may receive1-3 transfer credits.
- ACADEMICS: Courses taught in English are offered in Management, Computing Sciences, Engineering, and Chinese Culture
- HOUSING: Dormitory housing (4 persons per room) is available.
- OTHER: The NSYSU program fee (approx. $550) is waived for UHM students
Chulalongkorn University Summer Design Build Program (Architecture)
- TYPE: Regular Exchange
- DURATION: Six week program, mid- to late-July.
- CREDITS: To be determined. Students should consult an academic advisor about applying these credits towards their degree requirements.
- ACADEMICS: Summer Design Build Program for Architecture students is a studio course. Students will be allocated to one of various design build projects led by faculty from the International Program in Design and Architecture (INDA) at Chulalongkorn University's Faculty of Architecture.
- HOUSING: On-campus housing is available.
University of East Anglia International Summer School
- TYPE: Independent
- DURATION: Four-week program, July 1-26, 2013.
- CREDITS: Students may earn 5 credits (one module). Students should consult an academic advisor about applying these credits towards their degree requirements.
- ACADEMICS: Students may choose one module; topics include biology, film & television, theater, creative writing, digital animation, medicine, global media & communications, human resources, psychology, business, and more.
- HOUSING: On-campus accommodations are available; all residences are within a 10-minute walk to the center of campus.
Summer applications will be accepted starting in January.
Please complete steps 1 & 2 by February 1st. Step 3 deadlines vary by institution.

3. Overseas University Application Materials - Follow the application instructions online. Please pay attention to application deadlines! NOTE: students going on 'Regular Exchange' programs need to be nominated by MIX. Students going on 'Independent' exchanges do not need to be nominated.
NOTE: Every student applying for a MIX Summer Program must meet personally with Sara Otis (QLC 206). Please come to Drop-In Advising: Tues, Weds, Thurs 1:30-3:30 PM.
