ACADEMICS

This program is open to undergraduate students in all majors. Exchange students studying at SCH may participate in the International Studies Program. This program is open to students of all levels of Korean proficiency, including total beginners. In the International Studies Program, courses taught in English are offered in the following areas: Korean Studies, Asian Culture, History, Politics, Economics, and Korean Language.

The International Studies Program also includes many opportunities to learn outside of the classroom. Cultural field trips, volunteer education programs, and global leadership programs are offered to exchange students.

Note: UHM Exchange students receive complimentary housing at Soonchunhyang University, plus a modest monthly stipend (approximately US $100/month) to help cover living expenses and meals.

ESTIMATED COSTS

MIX students register as full-time students at UH Manoa and pay regular UHM tuition. They do not pay overseas tuition. 

- Students who normally pay in-state UHM tuition continue to do while on MIX. 
- Students who normally pay out-of-state UHM tuition continue to do so while on MIX.
- Students who normally pay WUE tuition continue to do so while on MIX.

In addition to UHM tuition, MIX students are responsible for all of their living expenses, including health insurance, books/supplies, room & meals, personal expenses, airfare, local transportation, and any costs associated with obtaining a visa (if applicable). It is recommended that you research online to get an idea of how much these expenses will be.    

Since you are still a registered UHM student while on MIX, you continue to be eligible to receive financial aid and scholarships. If you submit a ‘MIX Student Budget for Financial Aid Purposes’ form, UHM financial aid will take into consideration your overseas living and travel expenses when awarding you your grants/loans.

OTHER INFORMATION

Visa Information:

Exchange students use the Certificate of Admission received from their Korean host university to obtain a student visa. Student visas (D-2 visas) are issued at Korean Consulates. Student visas can are typically processed within five working days.

Required documents for the D-2 visa are:

  • A valid passport
  • A completed visa application (see website below)
  • Passport size photo
  • $45 fee (other fees apply to non-US citizens)
  • Admissions letter or certificate of registration issued by the president of the college or university.
  • Certificate of bank balance.
  • A copy of Diploma or the most recent school transcript.

Upon arrival in Korea, students who will be staying for more than 90 days must obtain a Certificate of Alien Registration from the Seoul Immigration Office.
