Fulbright Program

The University of Hawai'i at Mānoa enthusiastically supports the Fulbright Program, which was first introduced in 1945 by Senator J. William Fulbright to fund the promotion of international good will through the bilateral exchange of students in the fields of education, culture, and science.

The Fulbright Program provides individuals chosen for their leadership potential with the opportunity to observe one another's political, economic, and cultural institutions, exchange ideas, and embark on joint ventures of importance to the general welfare of the world's inhabitants. It is a flagship international educational exchange program sponsored by the U.S. government and is designed to increase mutual understanding between the people of the United States and the people of other countries.

  • Fulbright U.S. Student Program provides grants for individually designed study/research projects or English Teaching Assistantships. The program offers fellowships for U.S. graduating college seniors, graduate students, young professionals and artists to study, conduct research or be an English teaching assistant abroad for one academic year.
  • Fulbright Foreign Student Program enables graduate students, young professionals, and artists from abroad to research and study in the United States for one year or longer at U.S. universities or other appropriate institutions.
  • Fulbright Scholar Program offers various opportunities for U.S. faculty members to conduct research, lecture, or seek training overseas, and also for foreign faculty members to conduct research and/or lecture in the U.S.
