The Intergalactic Nemesis
Kennedy Theatre, UH Mānoa Campus

When The Intergalactic Nemesis Live-Action Graphic Novel premiered in 2010, more than 2,100 people turned out. Now, in its inaugural touring season, the production hits 24 venues around the country. This one-of-a-kind all-ages show is not to be missed.
The premise is simple: a period adventure story (with no small share of laughs) featuring Pulitzer-winning reporter Molly Sloan, her intrepid assistant Timmy Mendez, and a mysterious librarian named Ben Wilcott as they face the most serious threat Earth has ever known: an impending invasion of sludge monsters from the planet Zygon.
The telling is what makes the experience of The Intergalactic Nemesis so incredibly unique: while three actors, one Foley artist, and one keyboardist perform all the voices, sound effects and music, more than 1,000 hand-drawn, full-color, hi-rez, blow-your-mind comic-book images blast from the screen, all performed LIVE.

35th Annual Graduate Exhibition

The graduate program at the Department of Art and Art History, University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa is proud to present the 35th Annual Graduate Exhibition. The program is a comprehensive and diverse center for the graduate study of Asian and Pacific art history and the visual arts. MFA candidates hone their skills and expand their ideas through a critically engaged artistic practice while gaining a greater awareness of the global context within which art is made and circulated. This exciting exhibition is part of a demanding course of study, production, and review, highlighting the work of students currently enrolled in the MFA program.
The featured artists are Kerri Buxton, Jen Chua, Kyle Collins, Abi Good, Neilson Ishida, Kyle Jablonski, Jen Scott-Thario, and Tom Walker. They present artist gallery talks on Friday, February 1, from 12:00 – 1:30pm.

An Evening with Sutton Foster

Sutton Foster is an award-winning actor, singer and dancer who feels blessed to be living her dream.
Sutton was born in Georgia, raised in Michigan, and currently lives in New York City. She appeared in The Will Rogers Follies, Grease!, The Scarlet Pimpernel, Annie, and Les Miserables before her big break and Tony Award-winning performance in Thoroughly Modern Millie.
Sutton originated roles in the Broadway productions of Little Women, The Drowsy Chaperone, Young Frankenstein, and Shrek the Musical.
After starring as Reno Sweeney in The Roundabout's revival of Anything Goes, a role that earned Sutton the 2011 Tony, Drama Desk, Outer Critics, Astaire, and Broadway.com's Audience Favorite Awards, Sutton is spending some time in LA where she is starring in the new ABC Family drama, Bunheads.
She was first seen on television on Star Search at age 15, and has more recently appeared in Johnny and the Sprites and Flight of the Conchords. As a solo artist, Sutton has graced the stages of Carnegie Hall, Feinstein's, and Joe's Pub, among others. In addition to performing, Sutton’s passions include her shih-tzu, Linus and most reality television shows.
Sutton will be joined by Michael Rafter. Michael is musical director, arranger, conductor and pianist. He has worked with Sutton on a number of shows including Thoroughly Modern Millie.

Taiko Drum & Dance

Choreography by UHM Dance Faculty and guest artists.
Taiko and dance collaborations, live sound, and multi-cultural influences converge in this exciting program. Guest artist Kenny Endo is a leading spirit in contemporary taiko. He is Artistic Director of Taiko Center of the Pacific, a school of traditional Japanese drumming in Honolulu, and will be featured in this innovative program as music director, composer and performer. Other guest artists include Vicky Holt Takamine, Sonja Sironen, and Chizuko Endo.

Phoebe Cummings
UH Art Gallery, UH Mānoa Campus
February 24 – April 5
(opening reception on Sunday, February 24 from 3:00 – 5:00pm)
Working predominantly from unfired clay, Phoebe Cummings constructs pieces directly on site as temporary installations or interventions within a place. Both material and process are of particular significance to Cummings; her intensive labor of making is heightened by the ephemerality of the work’s existence. Often the pieces come to exist only as a photograph or memory. Cummings will be developing a site-specific installation in the UH Art Gallery.
