How long does it take to process my application?
Once we receive all of your application materials, it takes approximately 4-6 weeks to process. Admission decisions are made on a rolling basis which means applicants are notified as soon as possible after a decision has been made. Please note certain majors may take additional time to process if the college or school is also reviewing the application.

What is considered an "official" high school or college transcript?
We consider a transcript official if it is sent to us directly by the issuing high school or college. If you submit submit a transcript with your application, it is not considered official. Faxed transcripts are not considered official.
Can freshmen and transfers apply for either semester?
Yes. Freshman and transfer students can apply for admission in both the fall and spring semesters.
Do I need to reapply if I was previously accepted for a different semester?
Yes, you need to reapply. Acceptance is valid for the semester of application only.
Does UH Mānoa accept the General Education Diploma (GED)?
Yes, we accept the GED.
Freshman Admission

If I take the SAT or ACT more than once, how will the scores be used?
We take your highest writing, critical reading, and math scores from any test date. For example, if you score 520 writing, 500 critical reading, and 490 math on your first SAT test date and 500 writing, 510 critical reading, and 510 math on a subsequent test, the scores used for admission will be 520 writing, 510 critical reading, and 510 math.
Will I be denied admission as a freshman if I do not meet the minimum cumulative GPA or SAT/ACT scores?
Admissions officers will look at your application and supporting documents as a whole to determine admissibility. The rigor of your high school academic courses will also be evaluated.
Positive letters of recommendation on your behalf from teachers and counselors who are aware of your academic potential will support your admission file. A written statement explaining why you feel you will succeed at the university will also be considered.
Does UH Mānoa offer credit for Advanced Placement (AP), College-Level Examination Program (CLEP), and International Baccalaureate (IB)?
- Advanced Placement (AP) credits are based on your AP exam scores. Visit Advanced Placement Examinations for more information on what scores are accepted.
- To be eligible for credit, College-Level Examination Program (CLEP) exams must be taken before you complete 24 semester hours of college level work. Three semester credits at the introductory level will be granted based on the stated minimum scores. Specific course equivalents are determined by the college in which you are enrolled. - UH Mānoa grants credits and/or waivers on the basis of International Baccalaureate (IB) higher level examinations. Visit International Baccalaureate for more information.
What is the Self-Reported Application?
The Self-Reported Application (SRA) was created to allow students the opportunity to report their high school curriculum, test scores, and GPA for admissions purposes.
A full validation of the material submitted on a SRA will be required before a student can register for classes.
Why should I fill out the Self-Reported Application?
Completing the Self-Reported Application will allow the University to make admissions decisions in a shorter timeframe.

Transfer Admission
What do I need to submit to apply for admission as a transfer student?

Will I keep my grade point average (GPA) from previous colleges after I enroll at UH Mānoa?
No. Your GPA is used for admittance purposes only. Your UH Mānoa GPA will be based only on those courses taken at UH Mānoa.
If I don't want to transfer credits from a college I previously attended, do I need to send a transcript?
You are required to send transcripts from all the colleges and schools you have attended.
My current college operates on a quarter system. How do my credits convert to the semester system?

How will I know what courses will transfer to UH Mānoa?
Credits are evaluated after you are admitted and have confirmed your intention to enroll. Use the transfer credit search to check your credits online.
Note: Courses not included in the database may also be evaluated for transferability.

Western Undergraduate Exchange (WUE)
What states qualify for the WUE program?

Who is eligible for WUE?
Applicants who are current legal residents from one of the above states and are seeking their first bachelor’s degree are eligible for WUE. Visit Western Undergraduate Exchange for more information.
Note: Students cannot obtain Hawaiʻi residency while on WUE.
What majors are available in WUE?
All classified undergraduate programs are eligible except Architecture, Dental Hygiene, and Nursing.
How do I maintain my status in this program?
You must remain in good academic standing and register for at least one credit each semester. If there is a break in attendance, not including summer, you must reapply for WUE.
